The  14th edition of Jazzdor Strasbourg-Berlin will take place from June 2nd to June 5th, 2020.

This year its been ten years that we are at the Kesselhaus/ Kulturbrauerei Berlin, with its great industrial architecture and its great sound. It has been a  perfect setting for our festival since 2010.

Every year we select interesting projects from the french music scene to present to the Berlin audience. Over the years, especially our french- german band projetcs « Jazzdor créations » have become a real highlight of Jazzdor Berlin.

We are looking foward to welcome you in June!

SYLVAIN CATALA TRIO
+
KAMILYA JUBRAN

The Jazz saxophonist and Palestinian oudist have a lot in common. Above all, they share the same complicity with the double-bassist Sarah Murcia who is joining them alongside the drummer Christophe Lavergne in this quartet. This dialog between passionate temperaments and skinned sensibilities should not lack of intensity nor poesy.

DANIEL ERDMANN
+
AKI TAKASE

We’ve been supporting Daniel Erdmann’s work for several years now and we regularly received Aki Takase. However this original reunion between them sounds like unhoped to our ears. One was once the student from the other and they’re now joining again as equals to play together a concert based on the great jazz standard  « Isn’t it Romantic ». They will present a repertoire which is mixing popular songs, jazz standards and original compositions.

KEPLER

JAZZMIGRATION PROGRAMME

Constraints are often the best ally of inspiration. From short forms on a slow or medium tempo, the 3 musicians of Kepler are exploring every ressources of timbre, echoes, halos, and natural or artificial resonances. That’s what’s making this minimalism so poetic and deep. It finally leads a moving reunion between song and melody, just like a comeback to a lost innocence.

YOU

JAZZMIGRATION PROGRAMME

You is an explosive trio! We’re travelling with the singer Isabel Sörling, the guitarist Guillaume Magne and the drummer Héloïse Fivilly in a universe of folk songs, instrumental pieces and poesy. The drummer’s writing invites us into the world of pop music and instant creation. They’re switching between improvisation and rock and taking us into a sparkling imaginary land.

DAS KAPITAL
« VIVE LA FRANCE »

Since their first album, the band Das Kapital hasn’t stopped to spread its fundamentally ‘impure’ art. They’re blurring the boundaries between popular traditions and avant-garde. This time, they’re paying tribute to French music in all its forms : from Satie to Lully, without forgetting Claude François.

Das Kapital embraces once more the language spectrum of modern jazz and contemporary music in order to magnify the extraordinary melodic force of these timeless songs. Thus, they’re annihilating the artificial differences between « great music » and « popular songs ».

VINCENT COURTOIS
« LES DEMONS DE TOSCA »

First, it was Vincent Courtois’s wish: « To question the notion of demon in the artistic invention » with the support of Puccini’s opera piece. And then quickly, it became a laboratory of ideas and sounds and also a way to question himself and others. More than a concert, this multimedia and evolutive form interrogate since 3 years now the links between creation and audience.

This was how was born this uncommon project, a journey that does not take the same roads but keeps the same cape.

LEÏLA MARTIAL
+ VALENTIN CECCALDI
« FIL »

She toured in the greatest Jazz festival and clubs. The young and talented singer Leila Martial now plays with the cellist Valentin Ceccaldi and they’re trying to play with the moment. After her last album « Baabel » , Leila Martial keeps on his singular way with a desire of new encounters.

PIERRE BONNET, EMILIE LESBROS, ELLIOT SHARP « MEE-ZEE-SEE-BEE »

CREATION

JULIA KADEL 5TET

CREATION

This young Berliner is one of the incarnation of the spirit of liberty which animates the new generation. Julia Kadel explores her keyboard like one would start an adventure. This pianist brings a noticed contribution into todays Jazz landscape. She does not hide her pronounced taste for free figures and cultivate a complicity with the double-bassist Karl-Erik Enckelmann and the drummer Steffen Roth. Julia Kadel’s creativity is taking us into half-tinted atmospheres and mischievous punctuations. This Jazz tastes like poesy and Bill Evans’s ghost is not far away from it.

CHRISTOPHE MONNIOT
« 6 MIGRANT PIECES »

CREATION

These are 6 people with strong backgrounds, all great musicians recognized internationally, met at a point of their different migrations in the cosmopolitan city of Paris. Tasty and subtle combination combining France, of course, but also Italy, Belgium, Brazil, Ukraine, Scandinavia … They are also 6 compositions of Christophe Monniot, written precisely for these 6 musicians, nourished by the mixture of their cultures as well as the particular appetites of the composer for certain illustrious senior composers, who have made a lasting mark on the history of music. Olivier Messiaen, Wayne Shorter, Josef Zawinul, Egberto Gismonti, Wynton Marsalis. Music designed as a permanent journey, a migratory flow perpetual…

PAPANOSH
+
NAPOLEON MADDOX

ROY NATHANSON

Papanosh is a jazz quintet built on the tradition of libertarian musicians who are literally living in their music. Papanosh is a house with wide open doors and windows where we can hear jewish music, contemporary forms, urban horns and birds songs.

Roy Nathanson, saxophonist and poet from NYC, and Napoleon Maddox, rapper and beatboxer from Cincinnati are joining Papanosh for a poetic show based on a simple idea: to feel home, to be home.
